Cornelia Cole Fairbanks Chapter supports a wide variety of projects through the following committees with National Recognition.

 

American Heritage:  Preserving the Past Through Family Traditions - The American Heritage Committee strives to preserve our rich American heritage in the fields of art and sculpture, crafts, drama and literature, fiber arts and music.  Members are invited to participatge in the various contests conducted by this committee.  The Evelyn Cole Peters Awards for Excellence are given to individuals for Literature and Drama, Music, Art and Sculpture, Crafts, and Fiber Arts.

   

American History - The American History Committee promotes American history throughout the year, by honoring significant historical people, places, dates and events.  It sponsors the American History (Grades 5 - 8) and Christopher Columbus (Grades 8 - 12) Essay Contests.  It recognizes the contributions of Women in American History.

 

American Indians - The American Indian Committee provides financial assistance and educational aid to Native American youth and alerts our Chapter members to these needs.  It further provides awareness of American Indians through a chapter program in the odd numbered years and at Chapter meetings it presents an "Indian Minute".

 

Americanism - This committee promotes knowledge, loyalty, and love of country in the hearts and minds of American citizens, whether naturalized or citizens by birth.  The committee attends and supports the naturalization ceremonies by presenting U. S. Flags to honor new citizens.

 

Chapter Achievement Awards - To recognize a Chapter for striving to accomplish the goals of the National Society through a point system awarded for each recognized activity on the Master Questionaire within a year.  Points are awarded based upon the Annual chapter report submitted by the Regent and is the basis for Chapter awards.

 

Children of the American Revolution - Children who can document established lineage to a patriot.  This organization teaches good citizenship, develops leadership and promotes love of the United States.

 

Community Service Awards - This award recognizes worthy residents from a variety of walks of life for unpaid voluntary achievements in cultural, educational, humanitarian, patriotic, historical, citizenship endeavors, or environmental conservation.

 

Conservation - Promotes concern for our environment, its beautification and the wise use of our resources.

 

Constitution Week - Constitution week is celebrated each year on September 17th through the 23rd.  Educates the community about the historical event surrounding the creation of the Constitution and the men who framed the document that became the legal foundation of our country.

 

DAR Genealogical Preservation - Committee digitizes data from applications into the national database to safeguard records in DAR holdings.

 

DAR Good Citizens - To recognize and reward any high-school senior who exemplifies the qualities of a good citizen: dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.

 

DAR Magazine - Each member is encouraged to subscribe to the Award Winning American Spirit magazine and its companion Daughters newsletter.  Articles focus on Early American history, genealogy, historic preservation, collectibles, women's history and biography, historic travel and tourism, Americana and crafts and foods.

 

DAR Museum - Informs members about eh DAR Museum, its exhibits, programs and needs.

 

DAR Project Patriot - Supports America's service personnel in current conflicts abroad through a variety of projects and activities.

 

DAR Scholarship - To provide aid to a worthy student to attain higher education.  Scholarships are in various degree fields, for students of DAR schools, and general scholarships.  Applicants must be citizens of the United States and must attend or plan to attend an accredited college or university in the United States.

 

DAR Schools - Promotion of education for disadvantaged and special needs schools by contributing funds through our chapter by saving used ink cartridges, cell phones, and clipping labels from Campbell's soup products, Betty Crocker labels and V-8 drinks.  A school program is presented in even numbered years.

 

DAR Service for Veterans - Supports Richard L Roudebush VA Medical Center by providing comfort items to hospitalized veterans such as new underwear, socks, games, books, toiletries, lap robes, magazines, etc.  It may coordinate visitation of veterans in local nursing homes, and Veterans History Project, and other specially requested projects approved by chairman.

 

Genealogical Records - Collects and indexes unpublished genealogical records to include family Bibles and prepares them for use in the NSDAR library.

 

Historic Preservation - To assist the members in their efforts of historic preservation and is one of the 3 objectives of the National Society.  Activities may be held for the awarding of a Historic Preservation Medal, participation in a Historic Preservation Project Contest, providing expertise, information, guidance for identifying, restoring, and maintaining historic sites and properties, e.g. landmarks, building,s room,s cemeteries, forests, road markers, etc.

 

Junior Membership - For members 18 through 35.  Juniors are encouraged to participate in DAR activities and Page at State and National functions.  Points are awarded to junior members who do participate in chapter, state and national projects and events.

 

Lineage Research - Assists prospective members to obtain required documentation for membership.

 

Literacy Promotion - Promotes literacy for children and adults.  Turn in your volunteer hours reading to a child or an adult or helping someone learn to read.

 

Membership - Promotes knowledge of DAR activities, guides chapters in recruiting new members, retention of members, reclaiming members, and facilitates member referrals.

 

National Defense - Preserves the heritage of freedom, promotes the consitiution and the sovereignity and solvency of this country, and informs others of our responsibilities as citizens, and sponsors the ROTC awards.

 

President General's Project - The restoration of the beautiful NSDAR complex of buildings is a 10 year $22M project.  This is one of the largest complexes of buildings in the world, built, owned, and maintained exclusively by women.  A $6 per member donation over a three year period is requested of all Daughters.

 

Public Relations - Promotes patriotism, preserving American History, and supporting education with press releases and contacts with various media.

 

The Flag of the United States of America - To keep the flag flying, to protect it continuously under all conditions, and to educate citizens regarding its correct usage.

Volunteer Genealogists - Trains members in the preparation of applications and supplementals.  Members who have attended a two-day workshop are called "Volunteer Field Genealogists" and may conduct workshops at the chapter level.  Members who have completed the week long session at NSDAR and verifying supplementals can become a "Volunteer Genealogist".

 

Volunteer Information Specialist - Provides communication to members by email from our Regent and administers, designs and maintains our chapter's website, www.corneliacolefairbanksdar.org, maintains Facebook page and publishes a quarterly newsletter, with the contributions of chapter members.
